0.4 Changelog, and what comes after


Hello! I'm very happy to announce that Fire of Rebellion version 0.4 is almost ready for release. All that remains is compiling everything and giving the update a final pass before publishing the uploaded files.

If all goes well, I should have v0.4 out by the end of the week!

In the meantime, I'll share with you guys the changes I've made.

  • New Start of Campaign set-up has been added.
    • Each playbook comes with a Your 1st Mission with the Crew prompt.
    • A procedure for creating your world's history and legends has been added.
    • A procedure for naming specific details of each World Aspect (Fire, Empire, Rebellion) has been added.
  • End of Session procedure has been refined.
  • Flavor update: Stats are now called Aspects and Special Moves are now called Desperate Moves.
  • A few Desperate Moves have been updated.
    • seek forgotten knowledge has changed to call on ancient or forgotten powers
    • cast judgement has been reworked as a clear condition for Righteous and been replaced with rally ordinary people to your cause
  • A few World Moves have been updated.
    • attract Imperial attention has changed to provoke Imperial action
    • rally your allies is now a Desperate Move and has been replaced with invoke the greater rebellion
  • Lights and Shadows had their clear conditions revised.
    • Both now have specific impulses tied to them.
    • Shadows now each have a CLEAR IF... condition, encouraging players to roleplay their conditions away
    • Lights now each have a CLEAR TO... condition, providing opportunities for heroics
  • A few Playbooks have received minor updates.
    • The Chosen's Sanctum has received a list of features to choose from.
    • Desperate Moves triggered by the Orphan's Fragile Bonds now always have Crisis conditions active and are even stronger during a Crisis.
  • Playbook advancements have received a general update.

As you can probably tell, the 0.4 update is about refining and completing the current system in place rather than overhauling any existing structures.

As I mentioned before, the next two updates, 0.5 and 0.6, will bring more fundamental changes to the game, with a ground-up rework of Faith and a refinement of the basic character aspects and basic moves.
